General : Sarawak Wants To Continue Advancing, Prospering Within Malaysia - S'wak Premier

KUCHING: Sarawak's government has outlined a clear roadmap for continued advancement and prosperity within the context of a thriving Malaysia. Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasized that the state's economic development will serve as a catalyst for the nation's overall strength. The government's plans encompass strengthening the economic, energy, industrial and technological sectors, as well as expanding regional development to ensure Sarawak's ongoing significance in the country's economic growth.

The Sarawak administration also aims for the progress achieved by the state to benefit not only its residents but also contribute to Malaysia's development and prosperity as a whole. During the national-level Malaysia Day 2026 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching, the Premier expressed his appreciation for the federal government's commitment to empowering the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

This includes safeguarding Sarawak and Sabah's parliamentary representation at no less than one-third, establishing a revenue-sharing formula that favors Sarawak, and enhancing cooperation in the tourism sector.

These measures are expected to foster stronger collaboration and cooperation between the federal government and the Sarawak government. The Premier expressed his hope that these commitments will lead to a broader understanding that acknowledging the rights and unique privileges of Sabah and Sarawak is an essential part of the national agenda.
