Ga Mantse calls for quota for Ga-Dangme youth in govt programmes

His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has urged for a reserved quota for Ga-Dangme youth to access government training, employment, and development programs. He made this appeal during a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale. The Ga Mantse believes that setting aside a quota for Ga youth would ensure they have fair access to government interventions aimed at youth development.

He also emphasized the need for transparency in monitoring the number of young people who benefit from these programs, especially those from Ga-Dangme communities. King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II suggested that traditional authorities should receive statistics on the number of youth trained and developed through government initiatives over a certain period, enabling traditional councils to gauge the impact of the programs and understand the reach of youth development efforts.

He noted that the YEA had recently reached out to traditional councils, requesting lists, which he viewed as a sign of efforts to involve these authorities. Despite expressing confidence in the agency's work, the Ga Mantse stressed that the benefits of youth development programs should be quantifiable and visible within the Ga Traditional Area.

The discussions also covered broader development plans for the Ga State, such as the proposed 24-hour economy market at Agbogbloshie. The Ga Mantse called on the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and relevant state agencies to expedite the clearance of the site designated for the market project to allow construction to commence.

This meeting is part of the Ga Traditional Authority's efforts to enhance cooperation with government institutions on youth development, employment, and other initiatives aimed at advancing the socio-economic development of the Ga Traditional Area.
