Anant Nag, a legendary figure in Kannada cinema, has been bestowed with India's highest cinematic honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for 2024. This prestigious recognition comes after a career spanning over five decades, where Nag effortlessly immersed himself in countless roles, earning the trust and admiration of audiences across multiple Indian film industries.

The Press Information Bureau announced the award, citing the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee's recommendation, praising his contribution to Indian cinema and the generations of viewers his work has inspired. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his support for the actor, highlighting Nag's impact on Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema, with his understated performances and remarkable versatility.

Born Anant Nagarkatte on September 4, 1948, the actor has appeared in more than 250 Kannada films and over 300 titles across various Indian languages, solidifying his presence in Indian cinema. Beyond his film work, Anant Nag is also remembered for his role in the iconic television series Malgudi Days, which entertained generations of Doordarshan viewers.
