From ‘Ankur’ to ‘Malgudi Days’, Anant Nag’s five-decade journey earns Phalke honour

Renowned actor Anant Nag, who has left an indelible mark on both Hindi and Kannada cinema with his extensive career spanning over five decades, is set to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, announced the government on September 16, 2026. With a filmography of more than 250 films, the 78-year-old veteran is also celebrated in the theatre world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Nag, noting his effortless performances, remarkable versatility, and depth that have significantly impacted Indian cinema, especially Kannada cinema. The award, the highest recognition in the Indian film industry, will be presented to him during the National Film Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, on September 22.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee endorsed this decision, with the government expressing its pleasure at conferring the prestigious accolade on the actor for his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema and an inspiring cinematic journey that has inspired generations.
