Former MLA urges govt. to expedite land acquisition for third reach of Vattiyurkavu junction development project

Former MLA V.K.Prasanth has expressed concern over the sluggish progress of land acquisition for the third stretch of the Vattiyurkavu junction development project. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader stated that the process had advanced to its final stages under the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government but has since slowed down.

Mr.Prasanth highlighted that the delays could render the entire junction development project ineffective. He urged the current State government to expedite the land acquisition process. The relevant government notifications for land acquisition and the environment impact assessment for the third stretch have already been completed.

However, the change of government coincided with the final stages of land acquisition. The 3.8 km stretch from Mannarakkonam to Vazhayila is contingent upon the completion of land acquisition. Former Vattiyurkavu MLA Prasanth alleged that the inauguration of civil works by Health Minister K.Muraleedharan, the current Vattiyurkavu MLA, on Monday, was merely a continuation of work that was already underway.

The previous government had allocated ₹531.76 crore, completed tender proceedings, and inaugurated construction activities. The Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) was contracted to widen the Sasthamangalam- Mannarakkonam and Mannarakkonam-Peroorkada stretches as part of the project.
