Fire destroys N20m property at ADUSTECH in Kano

A fire at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH) in Kano's Wudil area has destroyed property worth N20 million, according to the Federal Fire Service (FFS). The fire was reported at about 11:38 am, following an emergency call from university security personnel to the Nigeria Police Academy. The FFS Green Watch team, led by ASF II Nura Haladu, responded swiftly to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team discovered the fire had affected office files and materials in the Architecture Department. Working alongside the Kano State Fire Service, firefighters utilized two medium jets of water to extinguish the blaze. While an estimated N700 million in assets were involved, N680 million were saved, and N20 million in property was destroyed.

Preliminary assessments suggest electrical wiring damage may have caused the fire, but a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause. FFS Kano Command Controller, DCF Sadiq Usman Mahmud, praised the firefighters and Kano State Fire Service for their rapid response and cooperation in controlling the fire. He urged institutions and individuals to routinely inspect their electrical installations and replace damaged or faulty wiring to mitigate fire risks.
