Family who blames Texas abortion ban for pregnant woman's death files lawsuit

The family of Awudu Issaka, a lecturer at Gbewaa College of Education, has gathered in Binduri to demand justice following his alleged death after an encounter with military personnel in Bawku. Joined by local youths, the family began their protest with a visit to the Binduri Naba, followed by presenting a petition to the District Chief Executive, requesting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Issaka's death.

Issaka reportedly came under assault by military personnel on September 11, 2026, during military operations in Bawku, allegedly related to a curfew violation. The family maintains that the lecturer died at the Quality Medical Centre in Bawku the following night. Protesters convened at the Binduri Chief's Palace, demanding justice and a thorough inquiry into the events leading to Issaka's demise.

The Binduri Naba, Naba Alhaji Akuom, voiced his backing for the protesters and their plea for justice, stating that the conflict between the security forces and the people of Binduri was the driving force behind their presence. In their petition, the family implored the government to investigate the events leading to Issaka's death and hold accountable, if found, those responsible for his alleged assault and death.
