EFL: Szoboszlai stunner helps Liverpool knock out Spurs

Tottenham's challenging season continued as they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Liverpool, who secured their progression with a 3-1 victory. The European-based Liverpool side managed to score their first goal of the season against Premier League opposition, despite having failed to find the back of the net in four league games.

The match saw heavily altered lineups for both managers, with Liverpool's Andoni Iraola making 10 changes from the side that drew 0-0 with Fulham, and Tottenham's Roberto de Zerbi selecting 8 substitutions from the goalless draw against Everton.

Early in the first half, Liverpool broke the deadlock through a goal from Alexis Mac Allister, who side-footed the ball into the top corner following a corner. Tottenham had a chance to equalize minutes later when Mohammed Kudus struck the post. Liverpool extended their lead just before halftime when Cody Gakpo capitalized on a Mac Allister set-up to score.

Tottenham's lone goal came in the second half, courtesy of Conor Gallagher, who turned a corner into the net after 69 minutes. However, Liverpool's Mamardashvili made a remarkable save to keep out Omar Marmoush's effort just before halftime. In the closing minutes, Dominik Szoboszlai, who sealed the win with a thunderous strike from 25 yards out, ensured Liverpool's victory. This win marked Liverpool's first success against Premier League opposition this season, following their previous goalless draw.
