Eby says NDP needs to be ‘election ready’ in B.C., but offers no date

Surrey - British Columbia Premier David Eby has told his legislators that they need to be “election ready,” amid disruption caused by the trade war with the United States. Former acting chief of staff Cheryl Oates will oversee the party's campaign for the next election, once it is called. Eby made these comments at a news conference, noting that both Elections BC and the NDP caucus need to be prepared for an election, although he has not announced a specific date for the vote.

The premier mentioned that his government currently holds a one-seat majority following the death of New Democrat Joan Phillip, and two NDP legislators are battling cancer. Nevertheless, Eby emphasized that his administration remains focused on the impact of the U.S. trade war with Canada and stressed the importance of giving British Columbians a say in the matter.
