Dubai launches SARAAB, open-source AI designed to detect deepfake videos

Dubai has introduced three cybersecurity initiatives at GISEC Global 2026, spearheaded by an open-source AI model named SARAAB, designed to identify deepfake videos. Developed by an Emirati team at the Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC), SARAAB is the first government-created model of its kind in the Arab region.

The model will be accessible through developer platforms, enabling AI engineers, cybersecurity professionals, and researchers to test and enhance it. Additionally, the Dubai Cyber Skills Framework was unveiled, serving as a standard for cybersecurity qualifications, certifications, training, and career advancement. This framework targets professionals, employers, academic institutions, and training providers.

Lastly, the ISR Auditor Certification Programme was introduced to train auditors and information security experts in assessing compliance with Dubai's Information Security Regulation using standardized methods. Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, the Chief Executive of DESC, emphasized that these initiatives aim to bolster cybersecurity capabilities and solutions in Dubai.

"The initiatives we are launching today embody this approach and reflect our ambition to develop solutions and expertise that originate in Dubai and create an impact beyond its borders," he stated.
