Duale pushes new Austria funding to strengthen KNH’s maternal and child care

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has launched a renewed effort to secure Austrian funding for the expansion of maternal and neonatal healthcare at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). During the 70th Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, Duale engaged in discussions with Austrian Health Minister Korinna Schumann about accelerating financing for the second phase of the "Mother and Child – Our Future" project.

The initial Ksh900 million program, supported by Austrian funding, has already upgraded critical care services at KNH, which serves as the country's largest referral hospital. The proposed expansion aims to address the increasing number of complex maternal and neonatal referrals from Kenya and neighboring countries, thereby easing pressure on hospital infrastructure, reducing waiting times, and solidifying KNH's reputation as a regional center of excellence for specialized healthcare.
