Drug regulator issues alert on sale of unauthorised Pakistani whitening creams in India

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has issued a stern warning regarding the sale of unauthorized cosmetic products in India, manufactured in Pakistan. On September 8, 2026, a public notice was issued alerting consumers of the presence of two specific products, 'Goree Beauty Cream' and 'Chandni Whitening Cream,' which are deemed illegal for sale and distribution within the country.

The manufacturers involved have failed to obtain the requisite license from the State Licensing Authority, nor have the products received registration from the Central Licensing Authority, as mandated by the regulations.

CDSCO emphasized that these products are particularly concerning due to their excessive content of heavy metals, exceeding the permissible limits. This elevated presence of heavy metals in the cosmetics could potentially lead to severe health repercussions for consumers, including toxic effects. The regulator emphasized the immediate need for consumers to abstain from purchasing or using these unauthorized products, urging them to discard any already in possession.

Furthermore, CDSCO cautioned against the use of other cosmetic items with similar names, as they may inadvertently pose the same health risks.

In addition to the advisory, CDSCO communicated to all involved establishments and individuals the need to cease any sale, distribution, or advertisement of these unlawful products. The regulatory body underscored the importance of compliance with the established guidelines and stressed the potential hazards associated with the unauthorized sale of cosmetic items.

Through this alert, CDSCO aimed to protect public health and ensure adherence to the stringent regulations governing the manufacture and sale of cosmetics in India.
