Do not sacrifice professionalism for mediocrity – OGIRS boss charges CITN members

Members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) have been told by the Executive Chairman of Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr Olugbenga Olaleye, not to prioritize mediocrity over professionalism to maintain the integrity of the tax profession, public trust, and contribute meaningfully to national development through ethical and efficient tax administration.

During a courtesy visit to his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Olaleye urged CITN members to resist pressure in issuing licenses, maintain professionalism, follow due process, and uphold integrity in their duties. He emphasized that adherence to these principles would safeguard the profession's credibility, foster public confidence in tax administration, and ensure only qualified practitioners are authorized to operate.

Olaleye also highlighted the significance of collaboration between OGIRS and CITN to enhance tax compliance, improve service delivery, and advance the tax profession in Ogun State. OGIRS Chairman Mr Olaleye expressed pride in his team's professionalism, dedication, and integrity. CITN's Vice President of the Federal Capital Territory District Society, Simon Kato, appreciated the Chairman's support for the hosting of the 16th CITN Zonal Tax Conference.

Kato advised professionals to be friendly, hospitable, technically proficient, and fair in resolving tax-related issues and payment processes. He also stressed the importance of treating taxpayers with courtesy, respect, and fairness, as their cooperation is vital for promoting voluntary tax compliance and strengthening public trust in the tax system.
