Cops quiz Hadi over claim US offered to topple govt

In Malaysia, police are investigating PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's claim that the United States offered to assist in toppling the government during former President Barack Obama's visit to the country in 2014. Hadi's associate, Syahir Sulaiman, revealed the statement was gathered recently in Kuala Lumpur. The investigation is ongoing, with multiple witnesses expected to provide testimonies.

Hadi has opted to let the police handle the matter and refrained from commenting further out of respect for the ongoing probe. During PAS's 72nd annual muktamar, Hadi alleged that the party was offered help by the US to overthrow the government in 2014, when Obama was visiting Malaysia. According to Hadi, Takiyuddin Hassan, then-PAS assistant secretary-general, and Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who served as Hadi's political secretary, visited the US embassy for the meeting.

However, Takiyuddin and Samsuri rejected the offer and maintained their refusal to accept it. The US embassy in Kuala Lumpur has refuted Hadi's assertion, stating that Washington has never sought to influence the leadership of Malaysia.
