Colts hope to clean up defensive communication by having LB Akeem Davis-Gaither relay play calls

Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen selected linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither to relay play calls from the sideline during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens. This decision follows a loss of 41-23 in the team's season opener. The "green dot" radio helmet will be worn by Davis-Gaither, who signed with the Colts as a free agent in March after a five-year tenure with Cincinnati.

Teams typically designate one offensive player and one defensive player to have radio contact with play-callers, with the green dots indicating those players. While most NFL teams place this responsibility on linebackers, the Colts opted to use safety Cam Bynum this season due to their young linebacker corps. Steichen aimed to improve communication and tackling as reasons for the change, believing it would free up Bynum and enhance overall team communication.
