Charlotte lands Women’s Tennis Association Finals, HQ and potential annual event

Charlotte has secured the prestigious Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals, set to take place from 2027 to 2029 at the Spectrum Center. The Charlotte Sports Foundation announced the decision on Wednesday, expressing gratitude to the WTA for their confidence in the city. WTA Chair Valerie Camillo expressed her excitement for Charlotte to host the championship, emphasizing its potential to become one of the defining global events in women's sports.

The WTA is also planning to relocate its global headquarters to Charlotte, with the possibility of hosting an annual WTA 500 event after 2029, contingent on the construction of a dedicated tennis stadium. The WTA Finals will replace its current location in Saudi Arabia, promising a week-long celebration and competition that will significantly impact the local community economically and improve the quality of life.

The Charlotte Sports Foundation has been conducting an extensive recruitment drive, including visits to Charlotte and Raleigh, and the city's $235 million renovation project, along with Billie Jean King's acclaimed visit, played a crucial role in securing the event.
