Carney arrives in Strasbourg, set to attend European Parliament and meet British PM

Prime Minister Mark Carney touched down in Strasbourg, France, on Wednesday, setting the stage for his upcoming visit to the European Parliament. The Canadian leader was warmly welcomed by Nathalie Drouin, Canada’s ambassador to France, and the vice-president of the European Parliament upon his arrival.

Carney's visit, which began with Canada’s inaugural investment summit in Toronto, aims to strengthen ties between Canada and the European Union across various sectors, including trade, defense, and personal connections. Visa-free travel between Canada and the EU is among the topics set to be discussed during the trip.

On Wednesday, Carney is scheduled to attend the state of the union address by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, followed by his own speech to the European Parliament on Thursday. Later in the day, he will fly to Manchester to meet with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, where they will attend an Everton F.C. match in Liverpool.
