Cabinet ministers call for unity, respect on Malaysia Day

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's cabinet ministers have urged Malaysians to maintain unity, mutual respect, and appreciation for diversity as the bedrock of national strength and to ensure that prosperity benefits all citizens. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil emphasized that Malaysia Day is a reminder of the country's foundation on unity, understanding, and a shared commitment to moving forward together.

The formation of Malaysia is not the story of a single entity, but rather a collective narrative from the peninsula to Sabah and Sarawak. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted that peace and harmony in Malaysia resulted from the sacrifices of past generations and the continuous efforts of all Malaysians, asserting that differences in race, religion, culture, and background are not barriers but strengths that form the country's identity.

Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that being Malaysian is not just an identity, but a shared responsibility to maintain peace, preserve harmony, and defend the nation's sovereignty. Human Resources Minister R. Ramanan called for strengthened solidarity and mutual respect as Malaysians work together to build a more inclusive and prosperous Malaysia Madani.

Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad reiterated the commitment to ensuring healthcare access for all, emphasizing that Malaysia Day reaffirms this dedication. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu stressed the importance of unity in justice, mutual respect, and equitable development, encompassing improved public welfare, food security, and the welfare of farmers, fishers, and livestock breeders.

Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri advocated for stronger connections between Sabah, Sarawak, and the peninsula through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation. Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing noted that Malaysia's diverse cultures, languages, customs, and heritage are integral to the nation's rich identity.

Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi echoed the sentiment that the Malaysia Day spirit should continue to unite Malaysians in building a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous future.
