She accused Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz of inaction, stating, "Friedrich Merz does not need to describe the problem, but find solutions."

Dröge emphasized that the revenues should reach people directly through an energy fund, as opposed to relief arriving weeks or months later. She specifically rejected a repeated fuel rebate, as it would only increase the coffers of oil companies and prove costly. Dröge argued, "It cannot be that the government reduces the burden on families during rising costs and prices, and then relieves oil companies."

Merz had hinted at relief for fuel prices on Tuesday, without specifying the details. The government would "consider various taxes and levies," according to Dröge, a stance also echoed by Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD), who called for an oil company windfall tax.
