Breaking: Bayern Munich announces contract extension for sporting director Christoph Freund

MUNICH, Germany - September 01: FC Bayern Munich has solidified sporting director Christoph Freund's position within the club's infrastructure, announcing that the 49-year-old has signed a contract extension until June 30, 2029, according to the club's website. Freund joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, following a 17-year management stint at RB Salzburg.

During his tenure in Munich, he has been instrumental in leading the team to two Bundesliga titles, a DFB-Pokal, and two Franz Beckenbauer Supercups. Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen highlighted Freund's pivotal role, stating that he plays a central part in all sporting decisions and that their successes in recent years are partly due to his outstanding work.

Dreesen added that Freund maintains an excellent working relationship with Vincent Kompany and is closely involved with the team, while also keeping a close eye on all other sporting matters. Board member for sport Max Eberl also emphasized Freund's importance, expressing delight that he will continue to work with them on the club's sporting direction.

Eberl noted that Freund is a valuable member of the team and a central figure in the sporting division, complementing each other in their day-to-day work and guided by the shared goal of continuously pushing FC Bayern forward. With Freund now tied down through 2029 and Eberl also recently signing a contract extension, Bayern Munich has secured continuity in a key aspect of its sporting leadership structure.
