Blue Jays’ bullpen falters in 10-1 loss to Tigers

The Toronto Blue Jays suffered a significant 10-1 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. The Tigers, currently sitting at 72-79, extended their winning streak to six games. Max Clark contributed with a one-run double in the fourth inning, while Riley Greene and John Peck added RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings respectively. Despite a throwing error by Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk in the eighth inning, allowing two more runs to score, Hao-Yu Lee hit a solo home run in the ninth.

Drew Anderson, who went scoreless in five innings, allowed only two hits and three walks, pitching a solid game. Relief pitchers Jacob Waguespack, Kyle Finnegan, and Brant Hurter followed Anderson to the mound. Kirk was the only Blue Jays player to reach base with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

The Blue Jays now find themselves two games back of Cleveland for the final wild-card spot in the American League. Cleveland overcame a 7-6 loss to the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers' bullpen day saw a roster of relievers including Braydon Fisher, Brendan Cellucci, Michael Lorenzen, Brendon Little, Spencer Arrighetti, and Joe Mantiply.

Spencer Miles, typically the go-to option for manager John Schneider when Toronto has a scheduled bullpen day, was not available for this game due to an arm issue after throwing two innings on Saturday. Miles has a promising 2.71 ERA and 86 strikeouts over 89 2/3 innings pitched in his rookie season. The Blue Jays will continue their series against Detroit with a matinee game.
