Argentina rejects UK government's 'guide' for Malvinas-related businesses

The British government has issued guidance for businesses involved in Malvinas (Falkland) Islands-related activities, despite Argentina's vehement rejection. Argentina's Foreign Ministry strongly rejected the British guidance, which it claims encourages commercial and hydrocarbon activities in the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the South Sandwich Islands, territories the UK administers.

Argentina maintains that the islands are part of its national territory and are "illegally occupied" by the UK. The dispute escalates as Argentina steps up legal actions against companies engaged in oil and fishing activities in the disputed waters. The UK's guidance, "Doing business with the Falkland Islands," aims to reassure companies operating or investing in the islands.

It supports legitimate economic activities and declares Argentina does not exercise sovereignty or jurisdiction over the islands. Since 1833, Britain has administered the Falkland Islands, except during Argentina's occupation during the 1982 war. Argentina remains prepared for a constructive dialogue with the UK to resume negotiations over the disputed territory's sovereignty.
