‘Are we even serious as a country?’ – Alan Kyerematen laments SHS placement challenges

Alan Kyerematen, founder and leader of the United Party (UP), has expressed deep concern over the challenges faced by families in securing placements for their children in the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). During a discussion on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Kyerematen highlighted the distressing situation for parents and students despite the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.

He questioned why, even with this initiative in place, families continue to encounter difficulties in placing their children in secondary schools. The UP leader expressed particular distress at the frustration among parents who have made considerable sacrifices to see their children through Junior High School (JHS). He lamented the financial burden some families now face, as they are being asked to pay money for placement.

"Are we even serious as a country?" Kyerematen asked, further questioning the credibility of a system once known for its reliability. He pointed out that the current issues with SHS placement have a profound impact on families striving to secure education for their children. The Ghanian education system currently offers 800,000 places for all SHS entrants, but GES insists there is no shortage.
