Anthropic is opening a Singapore office in October—and it’s hiring a range of roles

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence (AI) company, plans to open a new office in Singapore in October, becoming its fifth office in the Asia-Pacific region. This expansion follows the firm's other offices located in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul, and Sydney. The company announced this decision on September 16, stating that Singapore is emerging as a "standout market" for its advanced large language models and AI assistants, with strong enterprise demand for its products.

According to Anthropic's latest Economic Index, the country ranks second among 121 nations in Claude.ai usage relative to population, with usage being 5.81 times higher than expected based on its population size. Chris Ciauri, Anthropic's managing director of international operations, mentioned that opening an office in Singapore is a "natural next step," as it enables the company to hire local talent and collaborate closely with customers and partners to develop solutions using Claude.

Anthropic intends to work with companies of all sizes in Singapore, ranging from startups and digital natives to large enterprises and government entities. The company has also noted particular interest from regulated sectors such as financial services and government. To lead regional commercial operations, Anthropic appointed Dale Finlay as general manager of ASEAN, who will serve as the company's representative in Singapore.

Finlay previously held prominent roles at Google Cloud, leading go-to-market efforts in enterprise, financial services, and AI portfolios across the Asia-Pacific region.

In preparation for the new office, Anthropic has already begun hiring for various operational functions, with nine positions currently open across finance, sales, applied AI, marketing, and economic research. The company has not yet disclosed the specific location of its new office. Earlier this month, The Business Times reported that Anthropic had leased around 100 desks at The Executive Centre facility in Collyer Quay, Singapore.

The move by Anthropic follows a similar expansion by other AI giants in the region. In May, OpenAI announced plans to open its first Applied AI Lab outside the US in Singapore, hiring more than 200 specialized AI professionals over the next few years as part of a S$300 million investment in the country. By August, OpenAI was reportedly in talks to lease approximately 100,000 square feet of office space at the Shaw Tower on Beach Road.
