American softball player Cam Schiller banned 3 years for steroid doping at Men’s World Cup

Cam Schiller, an American softball player, has been banned for three years following a positive steroid doping test at the 2025 Men’s Softball World Cup. The International Testing Agency (ITA) announced the decision on Wednesday, stating that Schiller tested positive for norandrosterone, a metabolite of the anabolic steroid nandrolone, during the competition held in Canada. Consequently, Schiller was stripped of his bronze medal earned at the event.

The ITA explained that Schiller's sentence was reduced from four years to three due to his choice not to contest the doping violation and his agreement with the penalties imposed. Born in 1993, Schiller was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2012 and subsequently played in the minor leagues for the Spokane Indians before making the transition to softball.

Prior to this incident, Schiller had already made a significant impact on the U.S. softball team, having previously helped them secure a bronze medal at the 2022 Men’s World Cup in New Zealand. At that tournament, Schiller showcased his skills by batting at a .450 average and was selected for the all-world team. This latest ban does not blemish his impressive track record, but it serves as a reminder of the stringent measures in place to maintain the integrity of the sport.
