Alana Maria King, an accomplished Australian international cricketer, has made a significant impact in the sport with her right-arm leg-spin bowling and right-handed batting abilities. Born on November 22, 1995, in Clarinda, Victoria, she is of Anglo-Indian heritage, with parents Leroy and Sharon King originally from Chennai, India, who migrated to Australia in the 1980s.

The family settled in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs, where Alana grew up and attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College in Bentleigh. Her affinity for cricket began at a young age, with her playing tennis from the age of five and serving as a ball kid at the 2011 Australian Open women's singles final. Alana's sibling, Marc King, born in 1992, played representative cricket in Melbourne's local leagues and significantly influenced her decision to pursue cricket.

Growing up, Alana and Marc often played backyard games, eventually joining Oakleigh Cricket Club together until her mid-teens. Her professional cricket journey commenced at age 16 when she signed a rookie contract with Victoria's VicSpirit side in the Women's National Cricket League. She quickly earned a selection for the Melbourne Stars in the inaugural Women's Big Bash League season of 2015-16.

Early opportunities were limited, leading Alana to move to Western Australia and join the Perth Scorchers in the 2021-22 season for more game time. This move paid off, as she claimed 16 wickets that season, helping the Scorchers win the title and securing her place in the Team of the Tournament. Her international career took off in January 2022, debuting in all three formats within two weeks during the Women’s Ashes against England.

She quickly established herself as Australia's primary leg-spinner, taking 12 wickets in the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup, including the final against England. King has been a consistent force in subsequent campaigns, including the 2023 T20 World Cup-winning squad and the 2024 and 2025 T20 World Cups. She has also enjoyed success in domestic cricket, featuring for Trent Rockets in The Hundred and the Women’s Premier League.

In the 2024-25 Women's Ashes, she achieved a record-equalling 23 wickets across formats, including match figures of nine wickets (4/45 and 5/53) in the day-night Test at the MCG. Her accolades include being a part of Australia's 2022 ODI World Cup-winning team, the 2023 T20 World Cup-winning squad, and the Commonwealth Games gold-medal-winning cricket team in 2022.

Alana King has been named Player of the Series in the 2024-25 Women's Ashes and received the ICC Women's Player of the Month award for February 2025. Her outstanding performance in the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, including a record-breaking 7/18 against South Africa and being named in the ICC Team of the Tournament, solidifies her status as one of the leading wrist-spinners in women's cricket.
