AI bosses’ safety push sparks rift inside OpenAI and Anthropic

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the popular Claude AI assistants, is preparing to establish a new office in Singapore in October. This marks the company's first hub in Southeast Asia, with existing offices already located in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul, and Sydney. Chris Ciauri, Anthropic's international managing director, explained that the decision to open an office in Singapore was influenced by the city-state's high usage of Claude per capita, which is 5.81 times higher than expected based on the population size.

Singapore also offers a strong concentration of technical talent, global businesses, research institutions, and a thriving innovation ecosystem, making it an ideal location for Anthropic's regional expansion. The company plans to work closely with local organizations, including startups, digital natives, corporations, and the public sector, to embed AI into their operations.

Some of the roles Anthropic will be hiring for in Singapore include an Applied AI architect, APAC tax lead, Head of APAC accounting, Senior payroll manager, APAC, and Field marketing manager, APAC. This expansion follows a similar move by rival OpenAI, which opened a Singapore headquarters in late 2024 and has since leased 100,000 square feet of new office space in the city-state.
