$4,000 prize package announced for Accra Inter-City Marathon winner

Medivents Consult, the organizers of the Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon, have revealed that the race's winner will receive a prize package totaling $4,000. Mr. William Ezah, the Race Director, announced this information during a press conference in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. The winner will receive a cash prize of GH₵18,000, along with a travel package worth $2,500 to compete in an international marathon in January 2027.

This represents a significant 100% increase in prize money compared to previous years, thanks to the support of soft drinks giant Tampico Ghana. The second-place finisher will be awarded GH₵10,000 along with certificates and medals, while the third-place finisher will receive GH₵5,000 and gifts from sponsors. In the wheelchair division of the 21-kilometer race, the winner will receive GH₵5,000, the second place finisher GH₵2,500, and the third place finisher GH₵2,000.

There will be additional consolation prizes and medals for all participants. The marathon will take place on Saturday, October 10 at the Trust Sports Emporium (Bukom Boxing Arena). Runners can choose to participate in either the 21-kilometer or the 5-kilometer course. The event is expected to draw both professional and amateur runners, fitness clubs, gyms, and various social groups.
