38 500 South Africans scanned – One nation of Springbok look-alikes revealed

South Africans have been engrossed in an unusual selection process, identifying which Springboks they resemble most closely. Klipdrift launched its 'Same Same but Klippies' campaign, inviting rugby fans to upload photos and discover their Springbok look-alikes using facial similarity technology. Within just six months, over 38,500 scans were recorded, showcasing a deep connection between the nation and its rugby team.

Neethling Fouché topped the list as the most-matched Springbok, with 1,885 fans finding him the most similar to themselves. Lood de Jager and Wilco Louw followed in second and third place with 1,577 and 1,469 matches, respectively. The campaign predominantly involved South Africans, with 95% of the scans coming from the nation, and the United Kingdom in second place.

Gauteng led the national participation, contributing nearly half of all scans, followed by the Western Cape. This unique initiative brought out the camaraderie between South Africans, families, and friends, who eagerly shared their Bok look-alike results on social media. The campaign highlighted how rugby transcends boundaries, unifying people across generations, provinces, and backgrounds.
