2027: Oba of Benin Backs Continuity, Says No Need for Change

The Oba of Benin, Omo N'Oba Nedo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has called on Nigerians to support the idea of continuity in governance, stating that there is no need for change merely for the sake of it. Oba Ewuare II made this remark while welcoming Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), and other members of the council to the palace in Benin.

The monarch emphasized that the royal position is not tied to any political party, clarifying that his support should not be misconstrued as endorsement of a particular party. He reiterated that there is no point in seeking change for its own sake, stating, "That is not to say that I belong to one party or the other."

Oba Ewuare II urged former governors, senators, and other political leaders to collaborate for the greater good of the nation. He also advocated for cooperation between the ruling party and the opposition, stating, "In democracy, there must be opposition when a party comes to power. I don’t see why an opposition party can’t support the ruling party." The monarch warned against excessive criticism of political leaders, noting that no one is perfect.

The delegation, led by Yari, sought royal blessings, prayers, and support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027. Yari highlighted the administration's achievements in the economy, including changes in GDP growth, inflation, and foreign exchange stability. He praised Tinubu as the right person to lead the country. Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Dennis Idahosa, expressed his belief that President Tinubu deserved a second term and that it was Edo State's turn to have a second consecutive term in power.

He stated that the projects being implemented would garner massive support for Tinubu during the 2027 presidential elections.
