Zainal Abdullah appointed police management director

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Police Commissioner Zainal Abdullah has been appointed as the police force's management director, effective today. The appointment replaces Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid, who has been promoted to deputy inspector-general of police. The transfer of duties and rank conferral took place at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre, under the watchful eye of Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail.

Zainal, a 48-year-old Harvard Business School graduate, has a distinguished academic background. He holds a master's degree in laws from Universiti Teknologi Mara and a master's degree in human resource management from Universiti Putra Malaysia. In his career, Zainal has held various positions including deputy director (investigation/legal) of the Bukit Aman criminal investigation department, principal assistant director of CID D5 (prosecution/law), Dang Wangi and Perak Tengah police chief.

During the event, Abdul Aziz formally took up the second-highest position in the force from acting deputy inspector-general of police Ibrahim Darus. Following this appointment, which came into effect on September 9, Mashdik Yahya, the Selangor internal security and public order department chief, assumed the post of Bukit Aman police secretary on an acting basis, effective October 12. The ceremony concluded with the pinning of ranks on 25 senior police officers, recognizing their promotions.
