The World Athletics Championships will be held in Africa for the first time, with Nairobi, Kenya designated as the host city for the 2029 event. This marks a historic milestone for the championships, which are set to return to Germany in 2031. World Athletics President Sebastian Coe expressed excitement about the decision, emphasizing the significance of bringing the championships to Africa and highlighting Kenya's deep-rooted history in athletics.

The announcement comes following the recent Ultimate Championship, which took place in Hungary and featured a lucrative prize structure for top track athletes. Nairobi's selection for the 2029 championships was announced on Tuesday, with the 10-day event scheduled to run against a 3-day format for the upcoming Ultimate Championship in Beijing.
