‘Widow’s Bay’ Creator Katie Dippold & Star Matthew Rhys Are At A Loss For Words On Their Big Emmys Night: “This Is All Just A Pleasant Dream”

For the first time ever, Matthew Rhys emerged victorious with two leading Emmy awards in a single night. He first snagged the stat for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in "The Beast in Me". The category was considered to have a chance for Oscar Isaac to take home the prize, but Rhys' win came in the form of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for "Widow's Bay".

This victory was part of Night 2 of the Creative Arts Emmys, following the earlier success of "Widow's Bay" and Kate O'Flynn and Stephen Root in the supporting categories. Rhys' career has been marked by significant achievements, including being the first man to receive two leading nominations across Drama, Comedy and Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in the 21st century.

The last male to accomplish this feat was John Goodman in 1995. Although women have managed to achieve this double feat in that time period, the most recent was Elisabeth Moss in 2013. Rhys' co-star from "The Beast in Me", Claire Danes, ultimately took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for "Homeland".

This historic win makes Rhys not only the first actor to achieve a double, but also the first individual to bring home two leading nominations in one night.
