Where in the world is the iPhone cheapest?

Apple's latest iPhone launches have triggered global buzz, but the best prices are still limited to the United States. Market research company Counterpoint Research reports that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will cost more in all other major markets compared to their U.S. counterparts. The primary reason for the higher costs is local taxes, especially in Turkey where prices are almost double the U.S. price.

In India, the second-largest market for Apple and the second-largest manufacturing hub, prices will be 30% to 40% higher than in the U.S. due to local taxes. Although Apple has been diversifying its manufacturing operations to reduce reliance on China, India currently accounts for only about 25% of Apple's global iPhone production. The upcoming foldable model Duo won't be produced in India, adding to the steep price difference.

The United States continues to offer the most affordable prices for new iPhone launches. The UAE follows closely with relatively lower prices, primarily due to a low value-added tax of 5% and no additional taxes. China and South Korea also have lower prices, partly because of robust local market competition. Even iPhones made in India are mostly assembled abroad, with only 18% to 20% of electronic components sourced domestically.

As a larger share of components become locally sourced in the coming years, price increases are expected to be more gradual.
