What makes us proud to be Malaysian: Peace, unity and hope

As Malaysia Day approaches, Malaysians reflect on the qualities that make them proud of their nation. For Inland Revenue Board officer Intan Shazwani Ahmad Mazlan, the safety she feels in her homeland and the country's remarkable diversity stand out. The blend of different races and communities, she says, makes Malaysia's food and culture truly special. Intan hopes for peace and harmony to endure, and for trustworthy leaders to guide the nation forward.

Retired civil servant Mohd Yunos Mohamad echoes similar sentiments, emphasizing the pride he takes in Malaysia's multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-religious fabric. He believes the nation will continue to move forward as a progressive country, striving to become even more prestigious.

Architectural draftsman Miao Yap is particularly proud of Malaysia's progress and wishes that the country can move forward while avoiding setbacks. Miao also values the richness of Malaysia's indigenous communities, including the Orang Asli, Iban and Bidayuh, and hopes for a just, sustainable and inclusive Malaysia.

Recent graduate Noorizzati Jabannoor takes pride in Malaysia's ethnic mosaic and the richness of its indigenous communities. Her wish is for a country that is just, sustainable and inclusive, finding common ground in diversity while preserving harmony. She envisions Malaysia as one family where all communities celebrate their festivals joyfully together.

Inland Revenue Board officer Nor Hidayah Abdullah rounds off the sentiments with a hope that Malaysia's unity and peace will not only endure but grow stronger. She emphasizes the importance of Malaysians respecting one another and collectively building a better future for the country.
