War on Iran resulted in munitions shortfall for US, confirms Pentagon report

The United States war in Iran has cost the nation an estimated $33.4 billion, with $22.3 billion specifically allocated to weapons and ammunition, according to a Pentagon watchdog report. The report, which covers operations from February 28 to June 29, also details $7.4 billion spent on other aspects of the conflict and $3.7 billion in losses for military equipment.

The report, released on February 28, provides a comprehensive assessment of the financial, military, and logistical impacts of Operation Epic Fury, which is the first quarterly report on the US operation in Iran. The Pentagon's watchdog revealed that heavy usage of US weapons during the campaign has led to strategic inventory shortfalls and identified production bottlenecks for munitions resupply.

The report also documented extensive damage to US military facilities in the region, with Iranian strikes causing damage to hundreds of buildings and structures at US bases across the Gulf. Additionally, the report highlighted significant losses to US military aircraft and drones, including an F-35A fighter jet damaged by enemy fire and four F-15E fighter jets destroyed.
