Verteidigung: Pistorius trifft Hegseth in Washington – diesmal gab es für Deutschland sogar Lob von den USA

Washington, Berlin. Boris Pistorius appeared content as he stood on the "Freedom Plaza" near the White House in Washington on Wednesday afternoon. "It was really relaxed," he said about the meeting he had just concluded with his American counterpart Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon. "It was friendly, it was open and we could discuss all the things that were important to us on both sides."

During the meeting, Pistorius and Hegseth signed an agreement on enhanced cooperation in armaments. The United States increasingly relies on partners due to its production capacities no longer being sufficient. "Germany and the United States agree that the current security challenges require a robust and mutually beneficial defense industry base on both sides of the Atlantic," the German Defense Ministry announced about the Washington meeting.

That the meeting took place and the atmosphere was so relaxed, according to Pistorius, was not guaranteed. In May, Pistorius had planned a detour to Washington during his Canada trip, but he did not get appointments with senior representatives of the US administration then.
