USA defeat France to win 12th FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup

The United States secured a record-extending 12th Women’s Basketball World Cup title by defeating France 97-79 in the final held in Berlin. The Americans, perennial favorites with no loss in a World Cup since 2006, were below par for much of the tournament before securing the victory. France, playing in their first-ever World Cup final, aimed to avenge their one-point defeat in the gold medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

However, they lost their composure as the Americans mounted a strong comeback in the second half. While Gabby Williams of France led with 16 points in the opening half, the USA team, the heavy favorites, came in vulnerable after narrow losses to Italy and Spain in the semifinals. France led by three points at the end of the first quarter and a 14-point advantage midway through the second.

The USA fought back with quick three-pointers from Young and Clark, reducing France's lead to two points. The defending champions then maintained their composure, restricting France and clinching the World Cup trophy.
