[UPDATED] Azalina: Let Negri Sembilan Umno resolve royal proclamation issue

Negri Sembilan Umno and state authorities should be afforded time and privacy to resolve a matter concerning a purported proclamation aimed at removing Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, according to Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Umno's information chief. She emphasized that the issue should be left to the state-level leadership without any interference from the federal government or Umno's central office.

During a press conference, Azalina stated that the Negri Sembilan Umno liaison committee and the state government should be given space and time to determine their course of action. She added that any allegations of coercion or undue influence should be handed over to the police for investigation. The meeting between Ismail and Zahid Hamidi, Umno president, took place on Thursday at the 2026 Umno General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur.

Ismail had previously remained silent on the alleged proclamation and declined to comment on his meeting with the Umno leadership. The lawyer representing the ousted Undang of Negri Sembilan, Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, claimed that Ismail willingly signed the proclamation in question.
