UP Govt Directs Urban Bodies To Strengthen Drainage Systems, Prevent Rainwater Logging

On September 15, the Uttar Pradesh government under the Yogi administration directed urban local bodies to fortify their drainage systems to prevent rainwater logging and waterlogging during the monsoon season. Arvind Kumar Sharma, the Minister of Urban Development and Energy, mandated regular monitoring of drainage arrangements in every urban area of the state, with heightened vigilance in sensitive zones. He emphasized that any lapses in public infrastructure works would not be tolerated.

Minister A.K. Sharma instructed officials to regularly assess drainage arrangements, identify sensitive areas, and review the condition of drains, sewer lines, and pumping stations. Where deficiencies were detected, officials were instructed to take immediate corrective action. The Urban Development Minister assured that officials were provided with adequate resources and clear directives.

He made it clear that negligence in implementing works or disregarding senior officials' instructions would not be accepted, and any such lapses would result in accountability and strict action against the responsible officials.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is committed to providing citizens with better, convenient, and safe urban facilities. The state government prioritizes improving drainage, sewer, and sanitation arrangements in important cities like Varanasi, with an immediate solution to waterlogging and a long-term plan for its permanent resolution.
