Trump threatens to not reopen Kennedy Center after board blocks renaming

US Attorney General Todd Blanche announced on Tuesday that the FBI had uncovered new details about the individual who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump during a campaign event in 2024. The additional information pertains to the shooter's background and activities, which were previously unknown. According to the documents, the shooter received packages under the alias Bob Dole, a late Republican senator and presidential candidate.

Furthermore, the records reveal that the shooter procured parts and tools to increase the capacity of his rifle through Amazon. An unidentified donor also funded the cremation of the shooter's remains, as the Secret Service sniper killed the gunman during the assault, which caught the shooter's family by surprise. Eight shots were fired by the assailant, one of which slightly injured Trump's ear, and another that killed a bystander, resulting in two other injuries.

The motive behind the assassination remains unidentified. Blanche remarked that the investigation so far indicates the shooter acted independently and no evidence suggests any Democratic involvement in the act. Trump had previously claimed on social media that new information emerged, alleging a Democratic plot to remove him from the election without any supporting evidence.

Former FBI Director Christopher Wray, who was appointed by Trump and later became a target of criticism, was questioned about the department's handling of the incident. Blanche, who served as Trump's personal lawyer during the investigation, stated that he was present when the inquiry unfolded and expressed frustration about Wray's actions.

The Justice Department and FBI have not yet responded to inquiries regarding the matter, and the White House directed questions to Blanche's comments. Wray could not be reached for comment.
