Trump Calls AI Safety Warnings a 'Hoax,' Refuses to Back Guardrails Anthropic and OpenAI Insist Are Needed to Help Prevent Human Extinction

Donald Trump dismissed AI safety warnings as "hoaxes" in a series of posts on his social media platform, Truth Social. He claimed there was a "SICK conspiracy" to undermine AI development and compared AI safety concerns to the "Global Warming Scam." Trump insisted that he alone would prevent AI from going rogue and called for an acceleration in data center development.

He also called himself the "Hoax Buster" and claimed that only a "strong and smart president" was needed for guardrails on AI. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, received a call from Trump during a conference, where Trump claimed AI development was a "hoax" and that data centers were beneficial. Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned from his position, accusing OpenAI and Anthropic of racing to create a superintelligent AI system that could pose a threat to humanity.

Coxon warned that the companies were not taking the risks seriously and urged them to reconsider their approach.
