Victoria Island, the commercial hub of Lagos, is set to transform into a vibrant cultural hub as the city prepares for the inaugural Victoria Island Carnival 2026. Organized by Downtown Promotions in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the week-long event is scheduled to run from September 14 to 20, under the theme “Eko’s Jewel: A Legacy Rich in Colour.”

This landmark initiative aims to highlight Victoria Island’s dual identity as both the economic powerhouse and the premier lifestyle destination of Lagos State.

The festivities kicked off on September 14 with the opening of the central Carnival Village at Muri Okunola Park. This immersive cultural center will showcase a range of activities including culinary pop-ups, interactive creator hubs, live art installations, and continuous musical performances. On September 19, the Victoria Island Street Party & Nightlife Showcase will take over Adeyemo Alakija Street, turning the typically bustling thoroughfare into a lively open-air venue.

With vehicle traffic closed off, the street will host live DJ sets, street dancers, and fashion pop-ups featuring contemporary Nigerian designs.

The highlight of the carnival is scheduled for September 20, with a grand parade and citywide procession along major Victoria Island corridors. The procession will feature visually stunning themed floats, elaborate costume masquerades, and rhythmic brass bands marching along major thoroughfares such as Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Ahmadu Bello Way, Adeola Odeku, and Akin Adesola. The carnival will culminate in the final main-stage concert back at Muri Okunola Park.

Tourism, Arts, and Culture Commissioner Toke Benson-Awoyinka emphasized the carnival’s potential to stimulate the local economy, boost domestic tourism, and create opportunities for small-scale vendors, hospitality operators, and local creatives. Downtown Promotions CEO Abiodun Ayorinde highlighted the event’s broader impact, stating that it is more than just entertainment; it is an endeavor aimed at building a legacy that will position Lagos on the global cultural map.

With the participation of international tourists, corporate leaders, and regional art enthusiasts, Victoria Island Carnival 2026 is poised to become a cornerstone of Africa’s cultural landscape. The event will be supported by Landmark Event Centre and the Federal Palace Hotel, providing accommodations for key team members.
