SK chief Chey appeals prosecution's decision not to indict ex-wife's lawyer

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has appealed the prosecution's decision not to indict a lawyer representing his ex-wife in a defamation case. The lawyer, whose identity remains undisclosed, had accused Chey of false statements about his partner, Kim Hee-young, during their divorce proceedings in November 2023. Chey's legal team argued that the 100 billion won ($74.2 million) figure alleged by the lawyer's client was inflated by over 50 times, as it encompassed money paid to Roh and charitable donations.

They contended that the actual expense between Chey and Kim, at the time of the claim, was around 2 billion won, which was substantiated through financial records and explained to a court assessing the property division between Chey and Roh. The 100 billion won amount cited by Roh's lawyer encompassed not only the living expenses but also other unspecified expenditures.
