Search for missing runner ends in heartbreak as fifth body is found in Kempton Park

The search for missing runner Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo ended in tragedy as her body was discovered in Kempton Park, confirming she was the 38-year-old woman. Her family had been desperately searching for her since she failed to return home after her usual run on September 9. Moselakgomo's eight-year-old daughter was the first to inform her family of her mother's absence.

The woman was found partially dressed and wearing sports clothing, which heightened concerns. The police are investigating five women's deaths in the area over the past two months, with four bodies found in similar circumstances. National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe stated that the deaths might or might not be linked to a serial killer, but the similarities prompted intensified investigations.

SAPS Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane directed a multidisciplinary team to explore potential links between the cases. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the first body discovered in July. The police have warned women to avoid walking or running alone, particularly in isolated areas, and to remain vigilant. Women's rights advocates have criticized the burden placed on women to prevent violence.
