Saudi Board of Grievances adopts AI governance framework to ensure responsible use

The head of Saudi Arabia's Board of Grievances, Dr. Ali bin Ahmed Al-Ohaydib, has endorsed an AI governance framework during the UNESCO Global Forum on AI Ethics in Riyadh. The framework, unveiled on September 15, 2026, aims to promote responsible and secure use of artificial intelligence within the organization's operations and digital platforms.

In his statement, Dr. Al-Ohaydib emphasized that AI ethics have become a vital aspect of Saudi Arabia's national governance practices. He further explained that the Board of Grievances is striving to equip its staff with AI tools for use in judicial and administrative sectors, as part of the government's Year of Artificial Intelligence initiatives.

The new governance framework focuses on regulating AI usage in judicial and administrative procedures, safeguarding data, and ensuring compliance with national laws and regulations. It is based on standards and policies set by relevant authorities, alongside the Board's own internal regulations.

The framework also incorporates mechanisms for routine evaluation and updates, overseen by the Office of Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies at the Center for Digital Judicial Services. This ensures the framework remains current with rapid advancements in AI and promotes awareness of responsible AI use across the organization.
