Russia keeps hitting Kyiv’s gas stations. Now they get military air-threat tracking

On September 15, Kyiv Oblast military administration head Tymur Tkachenko announced that gas stations in the region will be equipped with a military air-awareness system. This system aims to enhance the stations' ability to respond swiftly to Russian drone attacks. Since the beginning of September, two gas stations in Kyiv have been hit by drones, resulting in one fatality and 11 injuries.

Additionally, at least three other Ukrnafta stations in the capital have been targeted since September 10. The new system will provide designated gas-station employees with real-time data on the movement of Russian aerial targets, allowing them to suspend operations, safeguard employees, and guide customers to safety more effectively.

The attacks on Kyiv's gas stations are indicative of a larger trend. Over 300 gas stations across Ukraine have been targeted since the current wave of attacks began, according to Ukraine's Energy Ministry. The strikes are increasingly penetrating deeper into the country, with Russian forces repeatedly employing drones against fuel stations in Kyiv over the past week.

These attacks pose a threat not only to public safety but also to civilian mobility, as gas stations serve as critical points within Ukraine's transportation and fuel network. Tkachenko emphasized that the new air-awareness access provides businesses with "maximum available tools" to detect threats earlier and react appropriately.

He also urged drivers to adhere to the instructions provided by gas-station employees during air raids, as the facilities adapt their operations in response to the escalating threat.
