Rough seas force early return, dad killed in Kota Tinggi crash

Kota Tinggi: A tragic accident claimed the life of 58-year-old Mohd Noor Selamat on Sunday, just a day after his fishing expedition was cut short due to rough seas and strong winds. The factory manager embarked on the three-day, two-night trip to Pulau Aur, Mersing, accompanied by two friends on Saturday. However, the group had to return early on Sunday, resulting in Mohd Noor's untimely death in a two-vehicle collision at Km31.2 of Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang at 6:20pm.

Mohd Noor's daughter, Aireen Shahira Mohd Noor, revealed that her father had kept the family informed about his whereabouts throughout the fishing trips via WhatsApp, as he was accustomed to doing. The last time Aireen saw her father was during the Johor state election. Despite living separately, Aireen described her father as a cheerful father who enjoyed joking with his children.

The fatal accident occurred when Mohd Noor was a rear passenger in a Honda BR-V, which veered into the opposite lane and collided with a Perodua Axia. Both the Axia's front passenger, Mohd Herwan Alias, 38, and the driver, Nur Ezazaya Mohd Ali, 34, succumbed to their injuries. Mohd Noor and Herwan were severely injured and died at the scene, while Ezazaya died while being transported to the hospital.

Aireen expressed that her father's remains would be interred at the Taman Sri Lambak Muslim cemetery in Kluang the following day. The BR-V driver, aged 42, and a passenger, aged 58, sustained injuries in the crash.
