Rotten Mushrooms, Rat-Gnawed Expired Spices Found At Dragon House; FDA Cracks Down On 3 Eateries In Bhopal

On Tuesday, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted inspections at three major hotels/restaurants in Bhopal: Rajhans, ICH, and Dragon House. At Dragon House, located in MP Nagar Zone-1, a significant issue was uncovered - five packets of mushrooms were discovered to be rotten and spoiled. Furthermore, packets of expired spices were found, with evident signs of rat damage. Rats were also spotted in the kitchen.

The establishment was found lacking in several essential sanitary and hygiene practices. All food products, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, were stored together in five freezers, which is not in compliance with food safety regulations. Additionally, food registration for Dragon House has been suspended.

In the Indian Coffee House (ICH), open dustbins were found scattered around, indicating a severe lack of cleanliness. The misbranded packed papad was traced back to Kerala. The restaurant failed to provide separate storage and processing arrangements for non-vegetarian food items, and the kitchen utensils and freezers were not adequately separated either. Cooking pans were found almost black due to lack of cleaning, and the drainage system was reported to be inadequate.

A sample of loose oil was collected for quality testing, and in Rajhans, MP Nagar, two uncovered dustbins and a rotten packet of mushrooms were discovered. The establishment failed to provide records of the medical check-up of 15 employees, and a potability report for drinking water was unavailable. Additionally, a physical verification of cottage cheese was conducted, with one sample collected due to doubts about its quality, priced at Rs 250 per kg.
