PTI office-bearers told to speed up mobilisation for Islamabad protest

In Rawalpindi, the north Punjab chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has instructed its office-bearers to expedite mobilisation for the September 27 protest in Islamabad, with the primary demand being the release of party leader Imran Khan. PTI highlighted that 119 prominent workers and activists have been arrested by police in the past two days across six districts of Rawalpindi division, while a total of 225 workers have been detained in the region.

To ensure the protest proceeds without arrest, PTI has established teams to mobilise workers and activists, urging them to avoid arrest while fulfilling their responsibilities. A senior PTI leader disclosed that a legal team has been formed by the party lawyers, and the information wing has compiled a list of arrested workers. The north chapter reported the arrest figures: 31 in Rawalpindi district, 23 in Attock, 29 in Jhelum, one in Murree, 10 in Talagang, 26 in Chakwal, 40 in Mianwali, seven in Bhakhar, 24 in Sargodha, and 34 in Khoshab.

A meeting between PTI Rawalpindi chapter office-bearers and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was held on Sunday, resulting in a decision to encourage workers and activists from Rawalpindi to join the Islamabad rally. The arrest issue was also discussed, and office-bearers agreed to continue preparations while working discreetly to avoid public attention.

PTI District President Ch. Ameer Afzal Khan confirmed that a five-member committee has been formed at the tehsil level to mobilise workers and activists, assigning duties to three layers of workers to take charge if previous batches are arrested. The presence of these workers is crucial for the release of Imran Khan, as emphasized through social media updates.

PTI has formed a 10-member committee to visit jails and meet the arrested workers, assuring continued support for their legal cases.
